Homecoming Executive Board announces totals, contest winners

Northwest Missouri State University capped its 2024 Homecoming with an awards ceremony Oct. 23 to announce winners of competitions throughout the annual celebration.

Northwest hosted its Homecoming week Oct. 15-21 with “A Century of Homecomings” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the University’s first Homecoming in 1924 and its Homecoming traditions since. The week included traditions such as the Variety Show, the annual International Flag-Raising Ceremony, the Homecoming parade and the Homecoming football game. The University also welcomed the class of 1974 for its annual 50-year reunion activities.

During the Variety Show, Sal Bonadonna was crowned Homecoming king, and Chloe DeVries was crowned Homecoming queen. Bonadonna is a senior cybersecurity major from Kansas City, Missouri, and DeVries, of Red Oak, Iowa, is a senior chemistry major with a biochemistry emphasis.

As a result of Northwest’s annual Donation Creation contest, during which students build Homecoming-themed scenes with canned and boxed food items, student organizations donated 1,228 pounds of food to the Maryville Ministry Center and 274 pounds of food to the Bearcat Food Pantry.

Additionally, Northwest collected 137 units during a blood drive for the Community Blood Center, the primary supplier of blood and blood components to the region’s hospitals and medical centers.

Northwest’s 2024 Homecoming Executive Board consists of Sarah Linder, a junior social media management major from Des Moines, Iowa; Nikki Stueve, a senior managerial accounting major from Hiawatha, Kansas; Riley Steele, a junior psychology major from Kansas City, Missouri; and Mikoya Tisdel a senior early childhood education major from Kansas City, Missouri.
